Many people believe there is nothing that can be known about the timing of the Lord's return because Jesus said He would return like a"thief in the night" (Matthew 24:42-44).

But Paul makes it clear in 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6 that Jesus' statement does not apply to believers: "But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief..." He then proceeds to explain why: "for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness; so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober." Paul is referring, of course, to the light of the Holy Spirit who indwells all true believers and who can enlighten us through our study of Scripture to know the season of the Lord's return (1 John 2:27).

Roots 'N Blues 'N BBQ Festival

The City of Columbia had their 2nd annual Roots 'N Blues 'N BBQ Festival this weekend, starting last evening and continuing all day today until 10:30 pm.

I didn't go last night, but I did this morning, early afternoon.

Great music and great BBQ. You sure can't beat that and the festival was free!

Here are some pictures I took:

It is a gorgeous day here, low '70's with sunny skies. Great weekend for this.

The food was a bit pricey, but it's BBQ, so that is the reason. They also served alcohol in selected areas of downtown.

Overall, a great time to be had with family and friends!

American Online

Back in the mid ‘80’s, there was an online service called Quantum Link.
This service was for the Commodore 64, the old computer. Remember them?

Q-Link, as it was commonly called, was a pretty neat service. It was effective, new, and very neat for geeks of all kinds, who like to get online and chat with other people around the country.

Back in 1991, it changed its name to American Online, the popular online service of today.

I have been a member since 1985 and still am a member.

I haven’t had much issues with AOL as other people. I have heard the horror stories. Not pretty. It’s not called “AHole in Hell” for nothing.

But...now from what I have seen in the last few yrs and less, AOL is slowly dying and becoming a dinosaur real fast.

An example of this is the lastest cut of America Online Hometown/FTB and AOL Journals.

J-Land, as it’s called for those who have blogs on American Online, is closing their doors.

A lot of people have their blogs on AOL and now they are being told that they need to find another provider. They are also being informed on how they can save their blog/information and transfer to Blogger. That should be fun to do for AOL and Blogger have different platforms, right?

Here is what the AOL Journals Team says about this:

This is only one example of things changing at AOL. A lot of their employees are being axed as well.

All good and great, but what will AOL look like after it’s all done?

Time will tell.

I used to have a PC. Now I have an iMac.

I wasn’t going to put AOL on my new computer, but as of today, I have the Mac version of AOL on my desktop.

We shall see how long that lasts.

I only known about this pastor and his church for a few months, but ever since, I have been faithfully watching his sermon on video on the web.

He's just started studying the Book of Revelation and I have learned a lot, and he's only in Chapter 2!

He's real, down-to-earth, and funny. He's not one of these pastors that stands way above the congregation in attitude, but down to the floor with everyone else. Very personal with the people.

I would love to have him as my pastor locally. But I kind of adopted him as my pastor on the web.

Hopefully by this time next Friday, I will say goodbye to Windows PC and Bill Gates.

I am a new member of the Apple Family by buying a 24 inch iMac at the Apple Store online at Apple.com.

I have been wanting to get an Apple computer ever since I bought my first Apple-related item, the iPod Touch, back last November.

Then in May, I bought the iPhone.

Last Wednesday, I took the plunge and got the iMac.

Does it look just grand? The innards of the computer is in the screen monitor. How amazing is that?

I went to the local Apple Retailer after work today and a 20 inch iMac was on display.

Oh, man. It was SWEET!

I am most certainly going to be occupied with this new baby for sometime, learning the basics and just enjoying the eye candy of the iMac.

I just checked with the Apple Store and it says my order is ready to be shipped. It probably will go out on Monday and hopefully get it by this time next week.

I sure hope so. I can't wait to get my hands on that baby!

St. Louis

I traveled to St. Louis in the rented car today.

That car has a powerful engine and it runs very smooth. Feels like you are gliding or skating on the highway.

Too bad it's a gas guzzeler. It wasn't too bad today. I filled it up yesterday coming home, and only had to fill it up once at half tank coming back from St. Louis. That's what I usually do in my own car. It is a little more though on the cost of gas.

I went straight downtown in I-70 instead of I-64/Hwy 40, the route I usually take when I go to St.Louis. They are doing the total remakeover of Hwy 40 from I-170 eastward to downtown, so you can not travel that way.

It has been years since I traveled I-70 to downtown and it was a little confusing, because I was looking for signs for Market Street, one of the main streets in downtown. But instead there was a sign stating "Busch Stadium Downtown", so I thought I better take that exit.

I had no problem of finding Market Street after I got off the exit though. If you are not familiar with St. Louis, Market Street has most, if not all, the city buildings. It has the Post Office, it has the Civil Courts, the Police Station is somewhere along there. The Old Capital is located on Main Street as well.

Looking at the picture above, you can see Market Street at the far left, going right up the left side of the Old Capital. This pic was taken back in 2006, the last time I visited St.Louis, and, of course, this was taken from the windows of the Gateway Arch.

Here is a view of the new Busch Stadium. It was just built and still working on the outside of the Stadium, as you can see.

St. Louis is a large city and an old city as well. It has many flavors to it and it takes time to discover each flavor.

I take the rental car back to the dealer after work tomorrow. It was fun having it for a weekend and I am glad I did get a chance to drive a convertable :D

Arrow Rock

I took my parents to Arrow Rock in the free rental car today.

Getting there was perhaps the highlight of the day.

The car is a two-door car and the back seats are, well, rather comfy and small. My mother rode in the back seat, because my father is a rather large man and he needs the space of the front seat.

Well, to make things short, for the most part, everytime my mother got out of the car, I had to lower the roof. Hehe...yeah, it was strange looking at first. But she got a laugh out of it, so it was good.

I don't think I will ever have a convertible. It looks great, but I really don't see the practical use of it. We started on the trip to Arrow Rock with the top down and at first, it was no problem.

But by the time we got to Rocheport, it was getting hot and we was getting burnt from the sun. So, I put it the top back up and turned on the AC. Much better.

It was a beautiful day and we got to Arrow Rock in a timely manner.

For those who don't know what Arrow Rock is or where it is, check here.

It is really a neat place to explore although it is a very small town with one main street of antique shops and a few restaurants. But if you love small towns filled with history and B&B motels, this is the place for you.

But with all the history and the uniqueness of Arrow Rock, the town has for the past 48 yrs, been providing drama and music to all who come to Arrow Rock.

Lyceum Theatre is located on the east end of the town. Get a chance to go see a show when you can. I never have been to a performance, but I have heard great things of the Theatre.

We didn't stay there in town very long, perhaps about 45 minutes or so. We came, we saw, and we left :) But since the town is only 45-50 minutes away from Columbia, you can go back anytime on weekends.

I probably go somewhere tomorrow with the rental car. I don't know where yet. I have to return the car back to the dealer Monday afternoon after work.

It was fun for the weekend to have the car, but it needs to be longer than a weekend :)

CC's City Broiler

I mentioned before that I received a $100 gift certificate to a fancy restaurant.

CC's City Broiler is just one of the nice restaurants here in Columbia.

Now, I can tell you right now, that I am not that familiar in going to fancy places to eat. I hardly go to them for I don't feel right and the $$ is out of my range.

In the past, I have gone on work-related trips and I had a chance to go to some really nice restaurants in Tuscon, AZ and in Tulsa, OK. Man, oh man, did I eat good!

But here in Columbia, I don't go out much to eat, and if I did, well, the 'common' restaurants, like Cracker Barrel, IHop are the places that I usually go to.

But I will go to CC's for a fine night out enjoying the steak dinner and may have a glass of wine to boot!

This coming weekend, I am going to rent this vehicle...free, except for gas.

Several weeks ago, I won The Elite Edition Award at my work. It's an award where fellow workers vote for those who are hard working, reliable, and so forth. The prizes include $150.00 in cash, a free rental of a vehicle and a $100 gift certificate to a real nice restaurant.

So this weekend, I am taking the above car for a free weekend and perhaps go chow down on that certificate :)

The Columbia Air Show

This weekend the Columbia Air Show was held, but rain had other plans yesterday. I did go out with some friends, for we were planning to counter-protest the Lefties/ex-hippies, whatever you want to call them.

They didn't show up yesterday (cowards) for it just rained cats and dogs for most of the day. We arrived when it first opened to make sure that the Show wasn't canceled, but it wasn't. People were there, those who had to be there and the food vendors, but others did as well, trying not to look drenched. We didn't stay long though. We went home and ate lunch.

But we did come back after the rain stopped, but man, it was cold and very windy out there. While we were there, we saw the vendors starting to pack up. Yep, they were cancelling the show and it was around 1 pm or so. No flights, no jump, no nothing.

The picture above is the U.S. Army Virtual Tour, a huge inflated thing that you go through and have some fun. That was the most popular thing, mostly because it was dry and warm inside, lol.

Today's weather is much better...no rain, but it is hot, mostly humid, outside. I didn't go today though.

The Memorial Day Parade is scheduled to be tomorrow. Shall wait and see how the weather goes before I venture out on that. In the past 3 or 4 yrs, I have been in the parade, but this year, I just might sit out of this and just enjoy it for once.

Remember what Memorial Day is all about and what the sacrifices of our brave men and women of our Armed Services went through for freedom and our way of life.

I have been in Tulsa, Oklahoma since last Sunday and won't leave until Saturday afternoon.

I am staying at Candlewood Suites, an extended-stay motel. It has a full kitchenette - Fridge, dishwasher, top stove and sink. Love it. I haven't used the stove nor the dishwasher since I have no use for it.

Did stop by the Super Target to get breakfast stuff though for the fridge. That was great.

Today is a messy day weather-wise. Cloudy and windy at 6:30 am. Some kind of warning is out for tonight I hear. I am in Tornado ally, so have to look out for that.

Just think of that verse, just think about what God had to do in order to save me and you.

God the Father loves me so much, in that in order for me NOT to be separated from Him for eternity, He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for me, to take my sins upon Himself, to pay for that penalty that should have been mine.

He demonstrated His love for me, His ever-reaching love for me. He lavishes His love for me that He sent His only Son, whom He loves equally as I and you.

Simply amazing.

But we (and I) can take that kind of love for granted daily. We go on about our busy lifes forgetting about His love for us and what expense He had to pay. We think that we can go living without Him, never thanking Him for that love, for that sacrifice.

May we stop and relish in that love each and every moment for the rest of our lives and for eternity!

The sun was shining, but it was raining. Yep, one of those showers.

I saw them Friday night in Columbia, because I was working during the event with the University. Pictures are here of that. The weather cooperated well that night. It was sunny, in the 80's and a little humid. Sweat towels do great! :D

BUT it was a different story for Saturday. It was a wet, and soaky day at Six Flags. I got there around 2 pm and from then on...it was a wet one. Rides, of course, closed down, then it did clear up but not for long.

Thankfully, the rain stopped and cleared up. The show was late starting, about an hour or so.

I am glad I did see the concert in Columbia. It was longer, because Mac did two sets of songs instead of one.

The Boss At Six Flags - St. Louis

The Boss at Six Flags is a very intense roller coaster...well, IMHO for I am an old guy, lol. This is the first time I rode it although it's been at Six Flags for several years now.

My advice for those who want to ride this coaster? Do not ride the first car, the first seat. Yep, I did it and I regretted doing that the second the train left the platform. It was just too intense for me do this kind of stuff! In the past, I used to love riding all the coasters at the park, but...my body says otherwise.

This coaster is a pretty huge one, with deep hills...like going straight down hills and very tight curves.

I didn't lose my lunch, but my brain was sure rattled! LoL

She Gets It!

This young lady was at the annual Memorial Day Parade in Columbia, Missouri this morning.

She, among other people around her, were holding up signs saying "Thank you!".

A simple, but a powerful sign.

We veterans do appreciate the "Thank you's", the clapping, the cheering.

It warms our hearts for we serve our country and that includes you all, especially this young woman.

She gets it. She understands what it means to serve our country and why we do it.

Remember...Freedom is not free. Thank a vet for your freedom.

Actually I have been on vacation for the past week. I have gone up to Montana and to the Glacier National Park.

Several weeks ago, I visited the oldest cemetary here in Columbia. I was walking around and I came upon several different markers, most of them of Jewish descent.

I then noticed that there were some smooth rocks on top of the markers, all sizes and colors.

Does anyone know what the significance of these rocks are?

The Face of Christ.

This granite carving is on a monument at a local cemetary here in Columbia. It is simply amazing in detail, especially the tear below the right eye.

Awesome.

I prefer to think that He is crying for joy for those who have trusted in Him as Saviour and Lord.
